Prof. Hilman Latief, M.A., Ph.D., and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Azhar, M.Ag. Officially confirmed as Professor of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The inauguration program was held in the UMY Professor’s Inauguration Senate Open Meeting on Saturday (30/1) at the 5th Floor Meeting Room, AR Fachruddin B Building, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
The inaugurationceremony was carried out offline and online by following the standard health protocol for the prevention of Covid-19. At the same time, in the event, Prof. Hilman Latief, M.A., Ph.D., he was delivered a scientific oration entitled “Islamic Ethics and the Spirit of Philanthropism: Reading Philanthropy as Development Criticism.” Professor Hilman added that the philanthropic movement can also be placed as criticism basic and also in criticism for development.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Drs. Muhammad Azhar, M.Ag., delivered a scientific oration entitled “Religious Democracy for a Developed and Civilized Indonesia: An Alternative between Liberalism-Secularism and Religious Fundamentalism.” In his oration, Azhar explained how to realize a more religious, progressive, and civilized Indonesian democracy in the future where, according to him, a process of taming ideology and politics was necessary. Professor Azhar said that being a professor is part of his achievement and as path of jihad in academic way.
