UMY at Glance

Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is located in Yogyakarta, one of the leading cities across Indonesia.  UMY is an accredited institution by the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education with an outstanding grade since 2013.  Other than the preceding, UMY is an acknowledged institution by the International Accredited Agency, which also granted UMY QS Stars for the following areas: 5 Stars for Facilities, Social Responsibility, and Inclusiveness; 4 Stars for Teaching; and 3 Stars for Employability.  As an educational institution, UMY focuses not only on learning through the teaching process but also on cooperation with other educational, governmental, and private institutions and industries, both in Indonesia and abroad.  This cooperation aims to fortify the efforts of the university in producing young and globally competitive (Muda Mendunia) individuals. Consequently, UMY has seven international programs and several international students.

The Department of Government Affairs and Administration (DGAA, Prodi Ilmu Pemerintahan) is one of the leading departments of UMY under the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.  Currently, DGAA enjoys and maintains an overwhelming grade since its accreditation in 2003.  In 2010, the International Program of Government Affairs and Administration (IGOV) was created, which sends  students to international campuses and receives international students under the program of student exchange.  Additionally, the department also has a Master of Government Affairs and Administration program, which is accredited by an international body called APSPA.  To accelerate research affairs, Jusuf Kalla School of Government (JKSG) determines to provide high-quality education for future politicians, bureaucrats, researchers, and civil society’s key actors through learning methods that combine theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and positive attitudes.

Moreover, the Laboratory of the Department of Government Affairs and Administration (Laboratorium Ilmu Pemerintahan) is also a supporting unit to develop research and soft skill programs. Therefore, the existence of the Journal of Government and Politics, also recognized as Jurnal Studi Pemerintahan, is a medium for scientists to share and publish their findings on government and political issues with distinctive approaches. This journal is indexed by DOAJ, BASE, Crossref, Index Copernicus, ASEAN Citation Index (ACI), Indonesian Publication Index (IPI), Google Scholar, CiteFactor, Arjuna, and SINTA (S2). As a young and global campus, UMY envisions itself as a world-class University; hence, its vision states “to be a leading university through developing knowledge and technology based on Islamic values to contribute to a proper society
