BANTUL – The high number of international students enrolling at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) under the motto “Young Globally” has prompted the university to improve its internationalization program by collaborating with foreign governments. UMY held the ‘UMY & Ambassadors Gathering’ on Thursday (16/6) at the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Building in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Head of Muhammadiyah Central Executive Syafiq A. Mughni stated that holding a gathering agenda with ambassadors or their representatives is a very important agenda for Muhammadiyah Higher Education (PTM) because it is mandated by Muhammadiyah’s future goals, specifically the internationalization of Muhammadiyah.

“So that in the future, of course, the capacity of educational institutions that handle this internationalization program must continue to increase and be more expansive in carrying out cooperation not only in recruiting foreign students to study at UMY but also in sending UMY students in Indonesia to study in various countries and there is also an exchange between international lecturers,” he explained.

Syafiq added that UMY could serve as a model for other PTMA campuses seeking to establish international cooperation.

“In this case, UMY has the potential to be able to carry out this international collaboration, either in the form of sending foreign students to UMY or in order to increase the university’s number of students who have received higher education or more advanced (advanced) education from different countries, and we are also able to receive higher education. It is hoped that this will be academically and culturally enriching “he added.

This is the first time that UMY has hosted this event and invited ambassadors and representatives from thirteen countries. Among these nations are France, Syria, Pakistan, Ecuador, South Africa, Turkey, Taiwan, Palestine, Morocco, Yemen, Iraq, Thailand, and Bangladesh.
