One of the educational aids was provided through the UMY Summer School 2022 program which was also attended by nearly 850 participants from 42 countries, including; Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Cameroon, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Gambia, Ghana, Indonesia, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Malawi, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam, and Yemen.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Central Executive (PP) Muhammadiyah, Prof. Syafiq A. Mughni H., MA, Ph.D., in the 2022 Summer School Opening Ceremony on Friday (15/07). “We are working with the Palestinian government to develop the education of the Palestinian people. Because we are fellow human beings created by Allah SWT. And that humanitarian mission is what inspires us to support Palestinian freedom and also support Palestinian sovereignty,” said Syafiq.

In addition to upholding justice, mutual respect, and respect for human beings is one step in building a better world, it is also a step in finding God’s message about how world peace needs to be created. But peace cannot be realized without justice being done. These two things are the basis of Muhammadiyah’s humanitarian mission on a global scope.

“We have to be respectful and respectful of others to be able to create justice and peace around the world. The two go hand in hand because there is no such thing as peace without justice. So, based on these principles, now we are acting together not only locally, nationally but also globally without any religious discrimination,” he added.

Dr. Zuhair Al-Shun, H.E. Ambassador of Palestine in his speech said that the educational scholarships provided were an important thing for the Palestinian people. According to him, education is not something that is easily obtained by the Palestinian people even though the people’s interest in education is very high. The unstable situation hinders access to education in Palestine.

“We are very happy and welcome this collaboration and we need to underline that this scholarship is very important for the Palestinian people. Because our people are very interested in education. I’m sure our people will thrive more than others. Because we not only fight with weapons but also need to fight with brains to achieve our independence,” he added.

In the future, Zuhair hopes that this collaboration can continue in the years to come with a wider scope. “We hope our cooperation will continue not only for this year but also for years to come. In addition, we expect cooperation between UMY and any universities in Palestine, so that we can work together for joint partnerships, student and cultural exchanges,” he concluded. (NSN)
