Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, MP., IPM leading for a Rector in second round in Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta
Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto, MP, IPM., officially inaugurated in second round being the rector of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) for the period 2020-2024. The inauguration was held during the unprecedented time of COVID-19 under the health protocol monitoring. The selection process were carried out from August 21 to September 30, 2020. The decision of the Chancellor’s Inauguration was remark by the Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership Diktilitbang Council, Prof. Dr. Lincolin Arsyad, MSc., and followed by handover ceremony which the agenda was held at Ar. Fachruddin B, 5th floor of the UMY, Monday (28/12).
The inauguration of the Rector was carried out solemnly which was also broadcast through the Instagram account of the Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, Youtube, as well as Zoom. Also attending the event was the Chairman of the Senate of UMY Prof. Dr. Heru Kurnianto Tjahjono M.M revealed that Gunawan Budiyanto is an extraordinary person and deserves to be a rector of UMY in the 2020-2024 period. “The extraordinary thing about Pak Gun is that he is able to respond to all challenges UMY face within straightforwardly and its achievements,” he said.
in the first round of Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto’s leadership of 2017-2020, there are many achievement that reached UMY, such as, Top 251 World University Rankings Asia, Top 75 University in Southeast Asia, The best Muhammadiyah Higher Education in Indonesia as the 1st top one, Top Private University Yogyakarta ranked 1st, Top Private University Indonesia is ranked 4th, and 15th in the Top University of Indonesia.
Dr. Ir. Gunawan Budiyanto in his opening speech convey that he believed that UMY could able to reached another achievement in move forward. in other side, he is also committed to realizing the development of the long-term program in the next 25 years that has been announced during the innaguration. He is also optimistic that in 2025 UMY can become a Research Excellent University. “With our future target of achievement in 2025, we hope that UMY will become a Research Excellent University and become the TOP 300 World Class University,”.
