Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, and Intuitive Institute sponsored the first fundraising management workshop in Indonesia, titled Certified Fund Raising Management (CFRM). Dr. Shariq Siddiqui, JD, Ph.D., assistant professor of Philanthropic Studies and Director of the Muslim Philanthropy Initiative, will train all participants from 5 to 16 December.

To seek and enhance the non-profit and charitable sectors in developing nations, the program is aimed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of fundraising tools and tactics, as well as leadership and management abilities.

Fitri Arofiati, S.Kep., Ns., MAN., Ph.D., Head of Cooperation and International Affairs at UMY, launched the session with a speech on the significance of philanthropy in Indonesia. During her interview, Fitri noted that this agenda is crucial for the success of the organization, particularly for those groups who are still attempting to acquire finances from abroad. “This is also an uncommon circumstance, as gaining this certification generally demands a hefty charge, but this course is free and extremely advantageous for individuals seeking foreign certifications. We believe that in the future, the group will be able to effectively use its resources to solicit outside donations, especially from throughout the globe.”

Dr. Shariq Siddiqui, JD, Ph.D., the CFRM trainer, shared his emotions towards his role as CFRM trainer. “I am really honored to be in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, where we cooperated with UMY to support Indonesian non-profits with CFRM training. It was one of the best trainings I’ve ever received, and I’m really appreciative to have had this opportunity. If non-profit organizations implemented data-driven and research-driven fundraising, we would be able to raise more cash and be more strategic, because it is not about the quantity of money we donate, but the impact we have. I am confident that this will be a significant milestone for the non-profit sector in Indonesia.”

Numerous non-profit organizations and higher education institutions, including Muhammadiyah Universities, BAZNAS RI, Lazismu, and Dompet Dhuafa, participated in the 10-day program.

Dr. Ir. H. M. Nadratuzzaman Hosen, Chairman of BAZNAS Rhode Island’s Board of Directors, values the training because it enables BAZNAS to expand as an Amil Zakat organization. “BAZNAS dispatched seven delegates, including three commissioners, one deputy, and three directors, to demonstrate the importance of this training. Because Amil Zakat organizations can no longer rely on assumptions and must instead operate with complete information. We also believe that we are deficient in a number of areas. Therefore, once this training is complete, we will implement organizational modifications. We anticipate that this training will continue to become increasingly specialized”.
